East-leading Wizards District Gaming sweeps two games

Wizards District Gaming padded their lead in the NBA 2K League’s Eastern Conference with a doubleheader sweep of the Gen.G Tigers on Saturday night, one of two sweeps on the day.

Mavs Gaming also took a pair of games from Bucks Gaming.

In the day’s other games, 76ers GC and Celtics Crossover Gaming split their doubleheader, as did Pistons GT and Cavs Legion GC.

The season includes three tournaments: The Tipoff (May 19-22, won by T-Wolves Gaming), The Turn (July 14-17, won by Hornets Venom GT) and The Ticket (Aug. 19-21). The Ticket will include the 13 teams that didn’t automatically qualify for the postseason, and the event’s top two finishers will earn playoff berths.

Early rounds of the playoffs are scheduled for Aug. 26-28, and the championship match will be Sept. 4.

In their first game, the Wizards (21-5) built a 39-30 halftime lead and held on for a 73-67 win over the Tigers (12-14).

John “JBM” Mascone led four scorers in double digits with 22 points and added 10 assists. Brandon “Brich” Richardson chipped in 17 points, and Ryan “Dayfri” Conger finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Jordan “Jmoney” Martinez registered 17 points and 17 assists for the Tigers. Kennedy “Sawc” Tauala Jr. finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Donald “BxmpyDon” Newsome scored 16 points.

The Wizards pulled away for an easier win in the second game, 79-56, thanks to a 28-10 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Justin “JustAwkward” Howell poured in 29 points, while Dayfri put together a triple-double of 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. JBM added 24 points and seven assists. Jmoney finished with 23 points and six assists for the Tigers.

The Mavs (8-18) outscored the Bucks (4-20) by a 43-33 margin in the second half to claim the first game of their twin bill, 88-82. They used a 20-11 fourth quarter to pull away in the second game as well, 76-67.

The 76ers (14-10) won their first game against the Celtics (11-13), 83-75, but lost the second game 77-70.

The Pistons (13-11) eked out an 81-78 win over the Cavs (9-17), but the second game was a blowout the other way, with the Cavs prevailing 94-69.

Week 10 play begins Wednesday with four doubleheaders:
