Cloud9 eliminated Evil Geniuses from LCS Championship losers’ bracket

Cloud9 swept Evil Geniuses 3-0 Thursday to clinch a spot in the losers’ bracket final in the League Championship Series 2021 Championship.

Evil Geniuses were eliminated with the loss, their second straight defeat after opening the tournament with a victory over Dignitas.

Cloud9 will face the winner of Friday’s second-round losers’ bracket meeting between Immortals and TSM.

Playing on red for all three maps, Cloud9 won in 38, 35 and 32 minutes for the sweep.

Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen of Denmark led the way for Cloud9 with a kills-deaths-assists ratio of 15-3-18. Robert “Blaber” Huang and Canadian Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme added 27 assists apiece. Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki led Evil Geniuses with six kills.

The top eight clubs from the Summer Split advanced to the championship, and all matches are best of five. The two matches contested last Saturday and Sunday featured the teams that finished third through sixth, vying for the right to oppose the top two teams in the second round.

The championship brackets run through Aug. 29, with the final rounds held at Los Angeles’ LCS Arena.

The top teams in the LCS 2021 Championship will qualify for the main draw of the League of Legends World Championship, scheduled to be held later this year in China. The third-place LCS finisher will earn a spot in the World Championship’s play-in event.
