100 Thieves win tight match in LCS Championship 2nd round

100 Thieves never trailed in knocking off Evil Geniuses 3-2 to begin Round 2 of the League Championship Series 2021 Championship on Saturday.

100 Thieves won the first and third maps, with Evil Geniuses winning the second fourth to draw even, before 100 Thieves won the clincher. The victory sends them into Round 4 against the winner of Sunday’s match between TSM and Team Liquid.

Evil Geniuses drop down into the losers’ bracket and will face Cloud9 on Thursday in another Round 2 game.

Can “Closer” Celik of Turkey and Felix “Abbedagge” Braun of Germany led the way for 100 Thieves with kills-deaths-assists ratios of 25-10-34 and 20-15-41, respectively. Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki of the U.S. finished at 21-12-15 to pace Evil Geniuses.

The top eight clubs from the Summer Split advanced to the championship, and all matches are best of five. The two matches contested last Saturday and Sunday featured the teams that finished third through sixth, vying for the right to oppose the top two teams in the second round.

The championship brackets run through Aug. 29, with the final rounds held at Los Angeles’ LCS Arena.

The top teams in the LCS 2021 Championship will qualify for the main draw of the League of Legends World Championship, scheduled to be held later this year in China. The third-place LCS finisher will earn a spot in the World Championship’s play-in event.
