Virtus.pro open with sweep at ESL One Fall playoffs

Virtus.pro opened playoff action with a victory Thursday, earning a trip to the upper bracket final at the ESL One Fall 2021 event.

Virtus.pro swept PSG.LGD in the best-of-three match. PSG.LGD gets bounced to the lower bracket, where they’ll play Team Spirit, a 2-0 winner over Team Empire on Thursday in Round 1. Team Spirit and PSG.LGD will have an elimination game Friday.

Team Empire were eliminated and finish in 7th-8th place.

Twelve teams split into two groups competed in the $400,000 event. The single round-robin matches were best-of-two. The top two teams in each group advanced to the upper bracket, third and fourth-place teams in each group advanced to the lower bracket, and the remaining teams in each group were eliminated.

The double-elimination playoffs run Thursday through Sunday. Those matches are best-of-three until the grand final, which is best-of-five.

On Thursday, Virtus.pro defeated PSG.LGD in 43 minutes and red and 39 minutes on green.

Team Spirit defeated Team Empire in 43 minutes on green and 51 minutes on red.

In addition to Spirit vs. PSG.LGD, the playoffs continue Friday with two other matches. Tundra Esports take on beastcoast in the other upper bracket match, and T1 face Alliance in the other Round 1 lower bracket contest.
